From the President: Introducing Strategic Advancement Groups

March 15, 2022

To my fellow Academy members:

One of the primary responsibilities of the Academy's Board of Directors is to set the strategic direction for the organization. The Board prioritizes programs and initiatives to demonstrate significant impact in the Strategic Plan's focus areas: Well-Being and Prevention; Nutrition Care and Health Systems; Nutrition Security and Food Safety; and Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access.

To accelerate progress toward achieving the Strategic Plan, I will appoint Strategic Advancement Groups consisting of Academy members to:

  • Create and maintain an organization that offers all members a voice in advancing the profession
  • Increase member engagement in determining the direction of the Academy
  • Accelerate inclusion, diversity, equity and access by creating a pipeline for a diverse pool of members to participate in new pathways to volunteer leadership
  • Offer more flexible, focused, short-term leadership opportunities in response to top challenges identified by members.

The composition of the Strategic Advancement Groups will reflect content expertise and diverse representation. The groups will develop official statements and rationales, supported by a summary of the scientific evidence, emphasizing the impact of the nutrition and dietetics profession on each of the focus areas of the Academy's Strategic Plan: Well-Being and Prevention; Nutrition Care and Health Systems; Nutrition Security and Food Safety; and Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access.

I invite all members to consider nominating yourself – or fellow members – for potential service on one of these important groups.

Send an email to make a nomination.
