Tuft & Associates, Inc. is leading the search for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics’ next Chief of Staff to the CEO, a senior executive-level role designed for a leader who can bring structure, alignment and disciplined execution to a complex, mission-driven professional association. Representing more than 112,000 credentialed nutrition and dietetics practitioners, the Academy is the world’s largest organization of food and nutrition professionals, with a national presence and a broad network of volunteer leaders, affiliates, practice groups, committees and councils.

The opportunity is notable because it sits at the intersection of executive leadership, board governance, enterprise performance and organizational transformation. The Chief of Staff will serve as a trusted advisor and extension of the CEO, helping translate strategic priorities into actionable plans, strengthening the executive office, supporting governance effectiveness and ensuring that high-priority initiatives move forward with clarity and accountability.

For association executives and nonprofit leaders, the role reflects a growing need for enterprise-wide leadership capacity inside complex member organizations. The Academy’s work spans research, education, advocacy, member engagement and professional advancement. In that environment, the Chief of Staff will be expected to connect strategy to operations, align leadership around priorities, manage execution milestones and help create the cadence needed for sustained organizational performance.

Key responsibilities include leading the CEO’s office, coordinating executive leadership team meetings and planning cycles, supporting the CEO and Board Chair on governance matters, overseeing board and committee operations, advancing strategic planning and performance management, and helping guide change initiatives tied to operating model, member engagement and digital capabilities. The position also carries supervisory responsibilities, requiring the successful candidate to coach staff, set expectations and foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, innovation and continuous improvement.

The Academy is seeking a seasoned executive with at least 15 years of progressive leadership experience, preferably within a professional, healthcare or trade association. Ideal candidates will bring a strong grounding in governance, strategic planning, enterprise execution, cross-functional coordination and organizational change. A bachelor's degree is required, while an MBA, MPA or equivalent advanced degree is strongly preferred. The CAE credential is also preferred.
