Food as Medicine (FAM) interventions are emerging as an effective approach to addressing nutrition security and chronic disease among patients with nutrition-related disease or risk-factors. FAM is defined by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics as "a philosophy where food and nutrition aids individuals through interventions that support health and wellness." FAM is a reaffirmation that food and nutrition play a role in sustaining health, disease prevention and as a therapy for those with conditions or in situations responsive to changes in their diet.
