National Nutrition Month®: Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Celebrates Nutrition and Dietetics Technician, Registered Day March 14

March 14, 2024

CHICAGO – The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics celebrates Nutrition and Dietetics Technician, Registered Day on March 14. The Academy recognizes the important contributions and experience of these valuable members of the food and nutrition team on the second Thursday in March during National Nutrition Month®.

“Nutrition and dietetics technicians, registered, are trained in food and nutrition and work under the supervision of registered dietitian nutritionists to help clients and patients reach their nutrition and health goals,” says registered dietitian nutritionist Emma Laing, an Academy Spokesperson in Athens, Ga.

The requirements to become credentialed as an NDTR include earning an associate’s degree or bachelor’s degree, completing a program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics and passing a national examination administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration.

“The NDTR credential recognizes the specialized education and experience that makes them immensely valuable to the nutrition and dietetics profession,” Laing says. “Whether they serve as collaborative members of nutrition care and foodservice management teams or as support personnel in community, academic and business settings, NDTRs are valuable members of our team.”

National Nutrition Month®

Each March during National Nutrition Month®, the Academy hosts resources on its website to encourage people to make informed food choices and develop sound eating and physical activity habits that they can follow all year long. This year’s theme is "Beyond the Table," which encourages consumers to consider the farm-to-fork aspect of the food system.
