Relevant Updates for Credentialed Practitioners

As the regulatory and accreditation landscape continues to evolve, credentialed practitioners benefit from understanding the latest updates that shape health care quality and patient safety. Below are key developments and resources from accrediting bodies, quality organizations and federal agencies that provide both compliance guidance and opportunities for professional involvement.

Acute Care Hospital Accreditation

Acute Care Hospital Accreditation's (ACHC) annual Surveyor Quality Review for acute care and critical access hospitals details top survey deficiencies and tips for compliance. The Volume 2024 | No. 2 covered nutritional services on pages 15-17.

Additionally, the ACHC's renal dialysis standards, behavioral health standards and hospice standards remain unchanged in 2025. Compliance does remain a must to maintain the accreditation.

The Joint Commission

Published in December 2024, page 5 of both Issue 48 and Issue 49 of The Joint Commission's complimentary R3 Report provided resources pertinent to the 2023 Standard EM.12.02.11 - Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response's Utility failures in health care toolkit and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and American Water Works Association's Emergency water supply planning guide for hospitals and healthcare facilities.

Public Health Accreditation Board

The Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB) has developed several resources to support their accreditation process. This includes a general resource page and an E-module series (the PHAB Learning Center*) that helps health departments strengthen their infrastructure, workforce and data modernization efforts.

Some of the topics covered in the Learning Center include the PHAB Readiness Assessment, Pathways Recognition, the Foundational Public Health Services: A Framework for Systems Change, Public Health Workforce Calculator, and Service & Resource Sharing 101.

*Access to the learning center and the series requires to create a Learning Center account.

Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services

CPs can get involved in Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' (CMS') quality measure development process by offering public comment and volunteering in the varied technical expert panels (TEP) opportunities available throughout the year.
