Accreditation Organizations
Accreditation organizations are independent not-for-profit organizations that accredit, certify, manage and promote providing effective continuous improvements of quality and safety in health care organizations and national public health organizations. These organizations strategically work with health care providers to identify areas of quality improvement:
Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC): Formerly HFAP, ACHC accredits healthcare facilities. Contact your facility's ACHC representative for manual updates on accreditation standards.
The Commission on Cancer (CoC): A program of the American College of Surgeons, CoC focuses on improving survival and quality of life for cancer patients. Key standards include Chapter 4 (Oncology Nutrition Services, 4.7; Survivorship Program, 4.8). Use "nutrition" to search relevant standards.
DNV GL Healthcare Accreditation and Certification: Provides accreditation and certification services with a focus on risk-based standards.
The Joint Commission: Accredits and certifies healthcare organizations in the U.S., promoting continuous quality and safety improvements. Relevant standards for RDNs and NDTRs include:
- Provision of Care, Treatment and Services Chapter
- Record of Care, Treatment and Services Chapter (RC.02.01.01 EoP 2; RC.02.04.01 EoP)
The Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB): Enhances public health by accrediting departments that advance and protect public health. For details, review PHAB's Scope of Authority.
