Academy Highlights Value of RDNs and MNT for Medicare Advantage Participants

03/08/2022 - In comments submitted this week, the Academy highlighted the importance of referring Medicare Advantage participants who experience food insecurity to registered dietitian nutritionists so that those beneficiaries, who are at the greatest risk for food insecurity and complications, can access crucial nutrition care and obtain better health outcomes. Additionally, the Academy urged the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to ensure that Medicare Advantage plans maintain an adequate RDN provider network.

The Academy also provided comment in support of many of the proposed modifications put forth in the rule such as the inclusion of standardized food insecurity screening in the Health Risk Assessment and reinstating the detailed Medical Loss Ratio reporting requirements.
