A new federal funding opportunity from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) is now available. Fiscal year 2026 Expanding Nutrition Services (ENS) funding will support HRSA-funded health centers to increase access to nutrition services. Nutrition services can help to prevent, manage and treat diseases and conditions through nutritional and food-based interventions. This funding offers a valuable avenue for registered dietitian nutritionists to lead and innovate in patient care.
Importantly, funds may be used for a wide range of activities, including hiring RDNs and delivering direct patient services such as cooking demonstrations, meal planning education and diabetes-focused nutrition classes. Additional supported uses include leveraging digital tools like apps and text messaging for nutrition interventions, as well as purchasing supplies to establish teaching kitchens or food gardens. Applicants for this funding must increase the number of nutrition services, patients or visits. This is a significant opportunity to elevate the role of nutrition in care delivery.
Learn more and explore eligibility details through the funding announcement and FAQs. According to grants.gov, the deadline for applications is June 22.
