Academy Provides Input to CMS' Quality Payment Program

The Academy continues to support the use of the Nutrition/Dietitian Specialty Measure Set as it is a valuable resource for RDNs to know what quality measures are available for selection for reporting under the Quality performance category.

February 16, 2023 – Echoing the Academy’s Comments to the CY 23 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule, earlier this week the Academy submitted comments to CMS' Practice Improvement and Measures Management yearly stakeholder request regarding Quality Measures specific to the Merit-based Incentive Payment System, also known as MIPS. Comments submitted during this period are used to inform QPP-specific proposals in the CY 2024 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule.

RDNs independently provide professional services such as medical nutrition therapy under Medicare Part B and are recognized as Eligible Clinicians and Qualified APM Participants in Medicare's Quality Payment Program. RDNs provide high-quality, evidence-based care to patients and deliver substantial cost savings to the health care system as a whole.

In the recommendations submitted to Nutrition/Dietitian Specialty Measure Set for program year 2024, the Academy focused on the following:

  • Quality Measure ID: 134
    Measure Title: Depression Screening
  • Quality Measure ID: 317
Measure Title: Preventive Care and Screening: Screening for High Blood Pressure and Follow-Up Documented

The Academy continues to support the use of the Nutrition/Dietitian Specialty Measure Set as it is a valuable resource for RDNs to know what quality measures are available for selection for reporting under the Quality performance category.
