The Academy is proud to endorse the recently released position paper titled: "The Society of Behavioral Medicine Supports Retaining Funding for School Meals to Reduce Hunger and Food Insecurity in American Children".
This resource outlines key policy solutions necessary to prevent hunger and reduce nutrition and food insecurity among American children. The paper reinforces the Academy's shared commitment to ensuring nutrition security and improved access to healthy meals.
Key policy solutions include:
- Reinstating the Local Food for Schools Cooperative Agreement Program and the Local Food Purchasing Assistance Cooperative Agreement Program.
- Co-sponsoring the No Hungry Kids in School Act.
- Including specific standards that are not vulnerable to rule changes in the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act (HHFKA).
Our endorsement reflects a unified voice in advocating for nutrition security and solutions that not only address the current policy issues but will prevent any future threat to school meal funding and nutritional standards.
