03/08/2023 - This year’s theme for National Nutrition Month® 2023 is "Fuel for the Future," which encourages everyone to eat with the environment in mind and make healthful choices now to maintain their health for the future. In honor of Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Day on March 8, the Academy hosted its annual RDN Day Contest and asked members to respond to this question:
What factors do you consider when helping people fuel their future?
The Academy received 61 eloquent responses that celebrate the value of RDNs as the food and nutrition experts. The winner of the 2023 RDN Day Contest is Jane Guo, MCN, RDN, LD, of Dallas, Texas. Here is her response:
"It is important to consider the individual as a whole because many life factors can affect their way of fueling themselves, including culture, beliefs, finances, time, responsibilities and relationships. Helping someone fuel their future requires looking at all these factors in the present and making plans to adjust or accommodate."
Guo is a clinical dietitian for Aramark at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center, a health care system based in Texas. She works in both inpatient and outpatient capacities, providing medical nutrition therapy to a diverse patient population. Guo earned a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from the University of Georgia and a master’s degree in clinical nutrition from The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.
