The Malnutrition Care Score: An Expert-Led Conversation

Published September 1, 2026

The Malnutrition Care Score (MCS) is a quality measure under the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Inpatient Quality Reporting (IQR). Since 2013, the Academy has helped guide this measure from concept to the first and only nutrition focused electronic clinical quality measure (eCQM ) in the United States.

CMS recently finalized mandatory reporting of the measure for hospitals participating in the Inpatient Quality Reporting Program and the PPS-Exempt Cancer Hospital Quality Reporting Program beginning with the 2028 reporting period.

This expert-led webinar provides practical guidance for implementing the MCS in acute-care settings. Participants will explore MCS fundamentals, implementation workflows, the role of nutrition professionals, and practical strategies for monitoring performance ahead of 2028 mandatory reporting.

The Town Hall will culminate with an interactive conversation with the Academy's measure developer and steward teams.

This webinar is for information only and not approved for CPE.
