Learning Lounge: Understanding Food Noise and Evidence-based Approaches to Addressing it in Clinical Practice
Monday, October 26, 2026

Track: Behavioral & Mental Health
Description
Food noise has garnered significant attention in both the public dialog and the scientific literature of late. Several definitions have been put forth with accompanying measurement instruments (e.g., Ro Allison Indiana Dhurandhar Food Noise (RAID-FN) Inventory). We will first describe the unique attributes that define food noise and how food noise differs from what might be considered a more typical internal dialog in individuals who are striving to manage weight. While specific evidence-based interventions for food noise are currently limited, there are nonetheless well-validated cognitive behavioral interventions that target specific elements of the client experience with food noise. We will provide guidance on how a clinician can apply these evidence-based strategies in clinical settings with clients who experience food noise.
Learning Objectives
- After this Learning Lounge presentation, attendees should be able to apply evidence-based strategies in their work with clients to address food noise.
