CPE: 1.5

Proficiency: Intermediate knowledge/experience

Tracks: Weight & Metabolic Health, Chronic Disease Prevention & Management

Theme: Clinical Updates & Evolving Practice

Description

Black women experience a disproportionate burden of diabetes—shaped by biology, culture, and the persistent effects of structural inequities. This session centers their lived experiences to reimagine diabetes prevention and management through community insight and scientific innovation. Participants will explore findings from community-based research that illuminate how lifestyle practices, GLP-1 therapies, and social realities intersect in the daily lives of Black women. Through a blend of discussion and reflection, experts and community voices will unpack emerging evidence, address barriers to access and trust, and identify strategies to deliver culturally responsive, equitable care. Attendees will leave with practical tools to integrate lifestyle interventions and pharmacotherapy in an ethical and effective manner, thereby amplifying community partnerships and advancing health equity in diabetes management. Planned with National Organization of Blacks in Dietetics and Nutrition (NOBIDAN) MIG
