Laing is a clinical professor and director of the didactic program in dietetics at the University of Georgia. She has held national, state and local leadership roles in professional organizations and has received awards for excellence in teaching, mentoring and service to the media. Laing's work focuses on determining the efficacy of non-diet approaches to improve health and well-being, and her courses likewise challenge diet culture and incorporate the negative effects of weight stigma on health. Laing graduated from the University of Delaware and earned both master's and doctoral degrees from the University of Georgia.
