Definition of Terms

The Definition of Terms List is a resource that houses terms, definitions and key considerations to support the profession of nutrition and dietetics. The terms and definitions are used in a variety of ways to ensure a common language is used in the profession of nutrition and dietetics.

Definition of Terms List

This language informs organization requirements, public policy development, regulations related to professional licensure, and as needed by academia, research, professional publications, employers, industry, and credentialed practitioners and members.

As a reference document, the definitions serve as standardized language for consistent application in practice settings and CDR/Academy documents.

Updating the Definition of Terms List

Terms are reviewed, revised, retired or added per the needs of the profession over time.

Please complete the Definition of Terms Form in its entirety if you or a CDR Panel, Academy Committee, Organizational Unit or Group would like to suggest a new term or modification to an existing term.
