Scientific Integrity Principles Update

The Academy's Scientific integrity Principles originally released in 2015 have been updated and highlights the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion as an integral part of scientific integrity.

10/18/2022 - The Scientific Integrity Principles subcommittee under the Academy's Council on Research has updated the Scientific Integrity Principles. The new manuscript, published in the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, updates literature and resources and expands on new concepts related to scientific integrity, including:

  1. The ethical conduct of research and protection of human subjects
  2. The funder's influence on the research question/methodology/education content and conflicts of interest
  3. The review of research-related materials
  4. Maintaining and promoting a culture of scientific integrity

The update also highlights the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion as an integral part of scientific integrity.

Originally released in 2015, the Scientific Integrity Principles is the backbone of Academy's research activities—created by and for its members for scientific decision making provided nutrition and dietetics practitioners and practitioners-in-training. After 7 years since the original publication, the 2015 principles were evaluated and

updated with new literature and best practices for maintaining scientific integrity principles. After this review process, four new or updated principles were approved by the Council on Research.
