An Update on Licensure in Florida

An appeal filed in response to the February 18, 2022, ruling upholding Florida's professional licensure law was denied.

04/19/2022 - The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics has been closely following the case of Heather Kokesch Del Castillo v. Secretary, Florida Department of Health, providing practitioners with timely updates. It was announced recently that an appeal filed in response to the February 18, 2022, ruling upholding Florida's professional licensure law was denied. This decision reinforces licensure laws protecting consumers from the harm they can suffer from health care services provided by unqualified and unlicensed practitioners.

The Academy supports the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals' February 18 decision that ensures complex nutrition services received by patients in Florida, Georgia and Alabama continue to be provided by qualified credentialed health care professionals.

Academy members interested in the Academy's consumer protection efforts are encouraged to join the monthly Licensure Initiatives Affinity Group.
