The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is saddened to hear of the tragic loss of U.S. Rep. Jackie Walorski (Ind.) and two members of her staff, Emma Thomson and Zachery Potts. Walorski was a consistent and reliable advocate for nutrition and hunger issues and a dear friend of the Academy. As co-chair of the Hunger Caucus and leader on the White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition and Health, Walorski demonstrated a commitment to bipartisan efforts ensuring that all Americans have access to healthful food and nutrition services.

Walorski's work encompasses supporting legislation to promote treatment of eating disorders, addressing food waste, ensuring access to healthful food and supporting policies to improve the agricultural economy. Her leadership in the House of Representatives on the Academy's priorities will be sorely missed and represents a great loss for our country. The Academy holds Walorski's family, friends and constituents—as well as those of her two loyal and passionate staff members—in our thoughts.
