Funding for Federally Recognized Tribes Extension Program Should Be Increased

The Academy believes that nutrition and food access, including access to culturally appropriate food, plays a vital role in the health and well-being of Native Americans and honors cultural preferences. In response to the National Institute of Food and Agriculture at the U.S. Department of Agriculture's request for information on the Solicitation of Input from Stakeholders on the Federally Recognized Tribes Extension Program, the Academy submitted comments to the agency, voicing its support for FRTEP grants to respond changes in tribal community needs. In the comments, the Academy proposed that increased financial investment and resource allocation for the program will help meet the growing portfolio of services.
