Academy Urges CMS to Better Recognize Costs of Malnutrition Care in SNFs

06/09/2020 - RDNs provide high quality, evidence-based care to residents of skilled nursing facilities and deliver substantial cost-savings to the health care system.

Malnutrition is a prevalent condition impacting a large proportion of older adults in Skilled Nursing Facilities. The Academy requested the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to increase points for malnutrition under the Patient Driven Payment Model and to incorporate the Academy’s electronic clinical quality measures into the Skilled Nursing Facility Quality Reporting Program to support better care for residents at risk for or with malnutrition.

The Academy looks forward to continued opportunities to work with CMS to design a health care delivery and payment system that improves the health of the nation and meets the needs of all stakeholders.
