06/03/2021 - Almost all Medicare beneficiaries have at least one chronic condition and more than two-thirds live with multiple chronic conditions that could be prevented, managed or treated in large part with medical nutrition therapy provided by registered dietitian nutritionists. Despite this, Medicare does not provide coverage for MNT services which would help seniors live healthier lives and also reduce overall health care systems costs in the United States.
Swift passage of the recently introduced Medical Nutrition Therapy Act is crucial to address this gap in care and the Academy is calling on its members to keep the momentum going on this important piece of legislation with the launch of the "ACT now for MNT" campaign.
The Act now for MNT campaign asks Academy members to do the following:
- A - Action alert for MNT
- C - Contribute $5 to ANDPAC to support the advancement of the MNT Act and other key Academy policy initiatives
- T - Tell five people - friends, colleagues, clients - to ACT now for MNT by sharing the public MNT Act action alert
The Academy aims to have all members participate in the ACT now for MNT campaign. Once all three tasks have been accomplished, members are encouraged to help spread the word with the Academy's ACT now for MNT social media toolkit. Advocates can also share why it was important for them to participate in the ACT now for MNT campaign by filling out this form; submissions will be used and shared across a variety of Academy platforms, including social media.
