Medicaid Managed Care Programs

The majority of Medicaid beneficiaries nationwide receive Medicaid program health care services through Medicaid Managed Care Programs as states can significantly reduce state Medicaid program costs and better manage utilization of health services by contracting with various types of MCOs to deliver services to their beneficiaries. These MCOs accept a set per member per month (capitation) payment for providing health care services to the state Medicaid beneficiaries.
