This updated comprehensive Certificate of Training in Obesity for Pediatrics and Adults course focuses on foundational concepts in weight management science and evidence-based practice to build knowledge, skills, and competence in pediatric and adult populations.

The course was developed to address the evolving competencies of today's and tomorrow's weight management RDNs and NDTRs in ways that support the needs of modern learners.

Course Eligibility

These virtual courses are only open to all CDR credentialed practitioners:

  • RDNs/RDs
  • NDTRs/ DTRs
  • Members of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (Active, Student, International and Retired)

Course Registrations will not be processed until eligibility requirements have been verified.

Steps to Earn the Certificate of Training and 64.25 CPE Credits

  1. Complete 15 pre-work modules
  2. Fully participate in a four-day live virtual event
  3. Pass a post-test with 80% passing score

Certificate course registrants must fully participate in all course content on the scheduled dates and times to receive the certificate and CPE credit. Partial CPE credit will not be awarded. Please refer to the cancellation policy prior to registering.

Please note: The Certificate of Training in Obesity for Pediatrics and Adults (both virtual and in person) are certificate of training courses, not certification programs.

For best results during the live events, disconnect from VPN and close all other browsers. Dedicate your computer only to the live events.

Planning for Internet/Wi-Fi Interruptions

You may wish to have several backup options in your home/office in the unlikely event you lose internet/Wi-Fi access or lose electrical power. Please be sure to charge your laptop computer, mobile devices, and power packs. For loss of internet/Wi-Fi, you may wish to use your cell phone hotspot or internet card.

Preparing to Participate

Be sure to set up in a quiet place in your home/office away from distractions, silence your cell phone, and have the learner guide and professional planner handy (available soon).

Learner Guide

The learner guide will be available under the Resources Tab. The guide will be linked in the Resources Tab which is included on each event landing page. The guide contains the agenda, PowerPoint presentations and handouts for all sessions. Bios for the facilitators are also included.

To avoid missing any content during the first event, please be sure to download these documents prior to the start of the first event. The facilitators will refer to this guide during all live event days. If you plan to print the guide, you may wish to print in grayscale instead of color.

Going Live

On the live event days, the "Join Live Web Event" link will appear 30 minutes before the event. You will be allowed in the live event at least 10 minutes before the event. You will enter the events on mute and remain on mute throughout the events. You should turn off your video.

Logging in Daily

You must log in for each live event to be eligible to take the post-test. Your attendance will be verified for each event before you are permitted to proceed to the next event and before gaining access to the post-test.

Maintaining Engagement

During the live event, the facilitators will be using various interactive tools — polling questions, reflection questions and the chat box to keep you engaged. You are encouraged to pose your questions in the Q&A and Polls section. The facilitators will address as many questions as time permits. To increase the priority status of an existing question in the Q&A and Polls section, please select the thumbs up.

Access to Next Live Events

At the end of each event, you will be re-directed to an evaluation. Please complete the evaluation each day before logging off, so you will be able to access the next event.


Certificate of Training Post-Test FAQs

These FAQs answer the most common questions from Certificate of Training in Obesity participants regarding the post-test.

It is important to note that most of the questions on the post-test relate to the content from the live course. As such, participants who attend every session and are actively involved in the polls and chat questions have a high likelihood of passing the post-test.

Access to the test will be provided after your participation in the four live events has been verified. An email will be sent by 3 p.m. (Central time) on Thursday, May 14, with instructions to access the test.

There are 64 multiple choice questions on the test.

The submission deadline for the test is 5 p.m. (Central time) on Tuesday, May 26. Access to the test will end at that time.

Yes. The test questions are primarily from the sessions presented during the live events; however, a few questions are included from the prework modules.

The post-test of the Certificate of Training in Obesity for Pediatrics and Adults is an assessment of knowledge and competence obtained or enhanced through an individual's participation in the course.

The prework modules, Learner Guide and session notes may be used to answer the multiple-choice questions on the post-test.

Individuals may form study groups to prepare for the post-test. However, the test itself must be completed individually.

The passing score for the test is 80% or higher. Your score will be displayed on the screen immediately upon submitting the test.

Unfortunately, the eLearning management system does not have a "save and continue later" option.

Note: There is no limit to the number of times you can go in and out of the test. Your visits will not be monitored. Your access will end once you complete the test.

The test is not timed. You can take as long as you wish to complete the test.

No. You only have one opportunity to take the test. Once the test is submitted, you will no longer have access to the test.

No, a key will not be provided. The same test is administered during future courses; therefore, an answer key or any feedback regarding the test or your score will not be available.

Yes. You will receive an email the week of May 26.

If you successfully pass the test, your certificate will appear under your profile area. You can access your profile area by clicking on your name in the upper right-hand corner and clicking on "Certificates."

If you do not pass the test, you will not be awarded the Certificate of Training. However, if you are an RDN or NDTR, you will be awarded 64.25 continuing education credits for completing the course. Documentation verifying your continuing education credits will be emailed the week of May 26.

Once you take the post-test, you will be able to download a document verifying the CPE credit.

Cancellation Policy

  • Once the prework modules have been accessed, a refund will not be issued.
  • CPE hours will be awarded for the prework modules and the live event.
  • The tuition for these courses is non-transferrable to another course.
  • A $75 administrative processing fee will be required if a registration is cancelled before accessing the prework modules.
