DIGID provides strong representation for gastrointestinal disorders within the Academy. The sub‑unit brings together dietitians specializing in GI nutrition to advance evidence‑based practice and improve patient care.

DIGID initiatives include the Evidence Analysis Project, the Celiac Disease Toolkit, the Certificate of Training in Gluten‑Related Disorders and the Credentialed Specialist in Digestive Health (CSDH) credential.

The goal of DIGID is to advance standards of care in gastrointestinal disorders through patient and practitioner resources, partnerships with GI societies and networking opportunities via conferences, meetups and the DIGID discussion board.

CFN is a specialty group for dietitians who work with or are interested in individuals living with cystic fibrosis (CF), the most commonly inherited disease amongst Caucasians. Advances in medical and nutrition therapies, such as Kalydeco, have significantly improved life expectancy and quality of life for people with CF.

Optimized nutrition care plays a critical role in pulmonary function and overall health. CF not only affects the lungs, but also the pancreas, liver, gastrointestinal tract, metabolism and nutrient absorption. Medical nutrition therapy may include individualized dietary modifications, pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy, vitamin and mineral supplementation, nutrition supplements, probiotics and electrolyte replacement.

The goals of the CFN sub-unit include developing standards of care and educational resources, promoting consistent use of nutrition terminology from the International Dietetics and Nutrition Terminology manual specific to CF and supporting evidence‑based practice and future research.

The Dietitians in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (DPM&R) sub‑unit supports dietetic professionals providing medical nutrition therapy for individuals experiencing loss of function due to illness, injury or surgery.

Nutrition plays a key role in rehabilitation by supporting functional recovery, quality of life and prevention of secondary complications. Practice settings include acute care, rehabilitation facilities, skilled nursing, home health, clinics and private practice.

Conditions addressed include dysphagia, spinal cord and brain injury, stroke, multiple sclerosis, ALS, orthopedic injuries, amputation, wound care, cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation and Parkinson’s disease.

The Immunocompromised and Transplant Nutrition (ITN) sub‑unit provides resources related to medical nutrition therapy (MNT) and community support for dietetic professionals working with immunocompromised individuals.

As medical advancements extend life expectancy and expand immunosuppressive therapies, individualized medical nutrition therapy is essential. Nutrition care is tailored based on the source of immunosuppression, disease state and current health status.

The goal of the ITN sub‑unit is to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing to support evidence‑based nutrition care for immunocompromised individuals across the lifecycle.
