Providing the Service and Billing Under Medicare

Providing medical nutrition therapy services to Medicare Part B beneficiaries and submitting accurate claims when requesting payment for Medicare-covered health care services requires a basic understanding of the Medicare program. The following information is intended to support RDNs in their understanding of complying with Medicare delivery and payment requirements.

  • Medicare Assignment and Payment

    Assignment is an agreement between Medicare and doctors and suppliers of health care equipment and supplies. To accept assignment means the providers or suppliers agree to receive direct payment from the Medicare program and to agree to accept the Medicare approved amount as payment in full for the service.
