Improving Cancer Health Outcomes

Academy Provides Input, Support for National Institutes of Health’s first draft of the report “Nutrition as Prevention for Improved Cancer Health Outcomes."

In response to the National Institutes of Health’s first draft of the report “Nutrition as Prevention for Improved Cancer Health Outcomes,” the Academy shared its support of the initial framework and provided recommendations for consideration, including:

Specify RDNs as key partners in Oncology Nutrition Care, as well as recognize the critical role of RDNs in their conceptual framework.
Increase access to and coverage for nutrition services; specifically in the outpatient setting where 90% of treatment occurs. The vast majority of cancer patients do not have access to treatment as outpatients.
Consistently screen patients for nutrition risk throughout care and across all cancer care settings.
