Academy Supports HHS’ Efforts to Collect Information on Social Determinants of Health

05/14/2021 - The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ information collection for “Access, Exchange and Use of Social Determinants of Health Data in Clinical Notes” aims to standardize effective inclusion and application of social determinants of health data in health care. The Academy finds it is “essential that health care providers understand the relationship between social determinants of health and related costs, utilization, and outcomes, and be able to effectively adjust clinical care practices accordingly.” Since RDNs are uniquely qualified to assess food-related social determinants of health, the Academy also encouraged the agency to specifically include RDNs among the survey respondents.
