Academy Provides USDA with Guidance on Use of “Healthy” on Produce Labels

05/18/2020 - The Academy supports the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service's efforts to align its labeling requirements with those of the Food and Drug Administration to promote consistency for all food products sold in the United States.

In a letter sent yesterday to USDA, the Academy encouraged FSIS to work collaboratively with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration as it revises the nutrient content claim marking certain foods “healthy” on the product label. The Academy will continue to work with FDA throughout its process of revising the "healthy" claim.
