Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation Hosts Inaugural Nutrition Science Forum: Addressing Malnutrition Across the Spectrum

Published April 11, 2024

Tackling the issue of malnutrition in health care, a serious issue resulting in increased health care burden, requires leadership. Experts from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, key government agencies, industry and academia gathered April 10 and 11 for the first-ever Nutrition Science Forum: Addressing Malnutrition Across the Spectrum, hosted by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation. Attendees explored malnutrition research efforts and gaps, implementation research needed to address different forms of malnutrition, and frameworks for consideration to inform future global research which will support national and local policies to combat this issue.

Goals of the forum included:

  • Discuss recently completed research on diagnosing and preventing malnutrition
  • Identify gaps and opportunities for future nutrition research, including co-creating a roadmap for areas of priority
  • Foster connections between policymakers, established and emerging nutrition researchers, industry leaders and experts in malnutrition

“The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation welcomes the opportunity to host an event for leaders in malnutrition across areas of practice,” said 2023-2024 Academy Foundation Chair Susan Laramee, MS, RDN, FADA, FAND. “Today’s event of collaboration is the first step of many to keep the momentum going on this critical research.”
