Lona Sandon is the program director, associate professor and distinguished teaching professor in the department of clinical nutrition at the UT Southwestern School of Health Professions, where she has worked since 1997. Her responsibilities include public relations for recruitment and admission of students, development of online course materials and supervision of students in classroom and research. She provides lecture topics for both university and community programs in a variety of settings. A leading authority on the use of technology in nutrition and dietetics education, Lona is a past chair of the Nutrition Educators of Health Professionals dietetic practice group; past president of the Dallas Dietetic Association; and West Central Region director of the Academy’s Nutrition and Dietetic Educators and Preceptors group. A former Academy media Spokesperson, Lona develops and teaches courses in topics including nutrition in media communications. She is an American Council on Exercise-certified group fitness instructor. Lona received the 2007 Media Award and the 2005 Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year Award from the Texas Dietetic Association. Lona is a graduate of the University of Minnesota. She earned a master’s degree in educational technology from the University of Texas – Brownsville and a doctorate in health sciences from Texas Woman’s University.
