FNCE 2025 is the ideal moment to present this session, aligning with the historic milestone of the Dietitian Licensure Compact reaching the seven-state threshold required for operationalization. This session provides a unique opportunity to "kick off" the Compact and prepare the profession for critical next steps, including forming the Compact Commission and establishing operational systems. With the Commission expected to begin its work by early fall 2025, this pivotal session equips attendees with the insights and tools needed to support this transformative advancement.

Celebrate the Compact's groundbreaking achievement with us! The session opens with a celebration of this historic milestone, followed by an in-depth interview moderated by Lisa Eaton Wright. Experts Matt Shafer from The Council of State Governments and Charla Burill, RDN, JD, from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics will guide attendees through the next steps of implementation.

Key topics include forming the Compact Commission, understanding its structure and responsibilities, and establishing essential systems like a multi-state licensure database. Timed to align with this turning point in licensure, attendees will gain practical strategies, learn from other compacts, and explore actionable steps to navigate this new era of professional mobility.

    Charla Burill

    Senior Director, State Legislative and Government Affairs, Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics

    Charla Burill is a licensed attorney in Michigan and North Carolina, as well as a Registered Dietitian (RD). She currently serves as the Senior Director of State Legislative & Government Affairs with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, where she leads strategic efforts in state advocacy, including licensure and the Dietitian Licensure Compact. Before joining the Academy, Charla was the Executive Director of the North Carolina Board of Dietetics/Nutrition (NCBDN), where she also acted as the Board’s registered lobbyist. In that capacity, she successfully advocated for the modernization of North Carolina’s Dietetics/Nutrition Practice Act in 2018 and subsequently supported other states in pursuing similar legislative updates. In recognition of her contributions to advancing dietetics licensure laws nationwide, Charla received the Council on Licensure, Enforcement, and Regulation’s (CLEAR) Consumer Protection Award in 2022. Earlier in her career, she practiced law at an international firm in Detroit, Michigan. Charla also plays an active role in professional organizations; she is Co-Chair of the Occupational Licensing Committee and Vice Chair of the North Carolina Bar Association’s Administrative Law Council and has served as a volunteer attorney for Legal Aid of NC. She was a dedicated board member of Farmer Foodshare from 2015 to 2022, serving as its Chair from 2020 to 2022. Combining her unique expertise in both dietetics and the law, Charla is passionate about driving policy initiatives that enhance the profession and protect public health in her role with the Academy.

    Daniel Logsdon

    Director of the National Center for Interstate Compacts, The Council of State Governments

    Dan Logsdon is the Director of the National Center for Interstate Compacts at The Council of State Governments. Previously, Logsdon was Vice Chair of Kentucky's Public Service Commission. He served as Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear’s deputy chief of staff and as Assistant Kentucky State Treasurer. He has experience in the telecommunications industry having served as vice president for external affairs at Alltel Communications and Windstream Communications.

    Director, Licensure and Consumer Protection, Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics

    Lisa Eaton Wright, MS, RD, LDN, serves as the Director of Consumer Protection and Licensure at the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. She guides state-level advocacy and licensure initiatives, ensuring alignment with national policy priorities and grassroots engagement. A second-career registered dietitian with a background in public policy and corporate health, Lisa brings a unique perspective to advancing the profession. She has held numerous affiliate leadership roles within the Academy at both the state and national levels and was twice elected to her local school board. Lisa has been honored with the Academy’s Award for Grassroots Excellence and Benedictine University’s Rising Star Award for her leadership and advocacy achievements.
