Academy Foundation Accepting Scholarship Applications

Scholarship Applications for the 2022-2023 Academic Year Open

March 28, 2022

CHICAGO – The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation is offering more than half a million dollars in scholarships for the 2022-2023 academic year. Many of the scholarships are designated for applicants from diverse backgrounds and cultures. The application deadline is April 19.

"We encourage all Academy member nutrition and dietetics students and interns at all levels of study to apply for Foundation scholarships," said registered dietitian nutritionist Becky Dorner, the Academy Foundation's 2021-2022 chair.

The Foundation awarded $812,950 to 330 students for the 2021-2022 academic year. Approximately 54% of those funds, or $439,450, was awarded to applicants from diverse backgrounds and cultures.

"Applicants need to only complete one application form to be eligible for any scholarship," Dormer said. "The Foundation has great resources to make the application process easier including an application checklist, a recorded lecture on setting yourself up for success and a video from previous scholarship recipients."

For the second year, the Foundation is offering two $25,000 Advancing Diversity in Dietetics Scholarships to support the educational advancement of aspiring RDNs of diverse backgrounds and cultures. Most Foundation scholarships range from $500 to $10,000.

The Foundation awarded its Advancing Diversity in Dietetics Scholarship to two dietetic interns in the 2021-2022 academic year. This scholarship, the Foundation's largest, was awarded to Gabriela Naveda, completing the coordinated graduate program in dietetics at the University of Illinois at Chicago; and Latina Robinson, completing her internship and master's degree in nutrition at Ouachita Baptist University.

"The Academy Foundation's Advancing Diversity in Dietetics Scholarship is rooted in a commitment to inclusion, diversity, equity and access. It is intended to support individuals in achieving their professional aspirations by helping to reduce their educational costs," said Dorner. "The Foundation is grateful to collaborate with the donor to offer this significant scholarship in the 2022-2023 academic year to support diversity in our profession."

The Foundation, which has invested in food and nutrition professionals since 1966, is the world's largest provider of nutrition and dietetics scholarships at all levels of study. Donations, not Academy members' dues, fund Foundation scholarships.

The Foundation's new Make It a Million Scholarship Campaign is intended to build enough resources to award $1 million in scholarships on an annual basis. Visit the Foundation's website to donate.
