Because many of the Academy's committees, projects and initiatives involve research to some extent, the Council on Research was formed in 2014 to coordinate communication and align the Academy's research efforts. The Council consists of the chairs of the following committees:
- Evidence Based Practice
- Nutrition Research Network Oversight
- Nutrition Care Process and Terminology
- Nutrition Informatics.
In addition, Council representatives include members from the Research dietetic practice group, along with funders of research.
The functions of the Council include guiding the Academy's research-related committees in conducting research to meet the needs of the membership and advance the Academy's goals, to increase coordination among research-related projects and initiatives and to ensure the relevance and viability of the Academy's various research endeavors.
