USDA Reorganization and Relocation of ERS and NIFA Advances

10/25/2018 - The U.S. Department of Agriculture has received 130 submissions expressing interest representing 35 states in the search for new locations for the Economic Research Service and the National Institute of Food and Agriculture. USDA intends to select one or more new locations by January.

While most employees would be relocated as a result of the initiative, a yet to be determined amount of staff from the two agencies will remain in the National Capital Region.

The Academy and other organizations have raised concerns regarding the impact of the relocation on food and agriculture research and programs.
