USDA Offers Assurance after Farm Bill Expires

10/02/2018 - House and Senate Agriculture Committee leaders were unable to reach a compromise on a new farm bill before the expiration of the current bill on September 30. Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue offered assurance that key programs and services such as SNAP benefits will remain in place despite the end of the fiscal year, but many are questioning how over 40 programs that no longer have funding will be managed.

The House is in recess until after the mid-terms elections, however there is speculation that Congress may pass a compromise during the lame duck session.
