Proposed DHS Rule Restricts Nutrition and Health Programs for Immigrants
10/04/2018 - The Department of Homeland Security issued the anticipated "Public Charge" proposed rule, which would restrict immigrant families (including citizen children) from using essential public services including non-emergency Medicaid, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, Medicare Part D Low Income Subsidy, and housing assistance, such as public housing or Section 8 housing vouchers and rental assistance.
The Women, Infant and Children Program was not included in the proposed restrictions, which will be subject to public comment before being finalized.
