New Healthy School Meals for All Video Highlights Importance of Federal Child Nutrition Programs

02/22/2022 - School cafeterias are the healthiest place for kids to eat in the United States. This is the key message of a new "Healthy School Meals for All" video developed by the Academy's School Nutrition Services dietetic practice group.

"Healthy school meals for children are as important to learning as textbooks and pencils," said Academy President Kevin L. Sauer, PhD, RDN, LD, FAND. "Investing in federal school meal programs for all school-aged children is essential to help the next generation establish lifelong healthy eating habits. That's more important than ever with the COVID-19 pandemic's disproportionate impact on people with diet-related diseases and underrepresented communities."

The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics urges members of Congress to co-sponsor and support the Universal School Meals Program Act.
