Menu Labeling Takes Effect

05/14/2018 - After several years of delays, the country's menu labeling rule, created under the Affordable Care Act, took effect May 7. The rule applies nationwide to standard menu items in restaurants and similar retail food establishments with 20 or more locations.

The final rule and industry guidance from the Food and Drug Administration were the result of a deliberate process including input from stakeholders across industry, government and public health.

The Academy has long supported Americans' ability to know what is in their food and make healthy choices at the point of purchase.
