Malnutrition Reclassification Codes Postponed

08/15/2019 - The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services postponed the final classification of Malnutrition Diagnostic Codes for hospital payment purposes in the final inpatient prospective payment system rule for Fiscal Year 2020.

According to the Association of Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialists, the proposed rule "contained 837 837 deletions from the CC list and the 145 deletions from the MCC list." The final rule "contained only five CCs deletions and no deletions from the MCC list."

The final version of the rule will be published on August 16.

The Academy joined the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, the American Society for Nutrition and the Association of Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialists in request to the CMS to postpone the reclassification of codes earlier this year.
