Industry Receives Flexibility with Nutrition Facts Label Requirements

10/29/2019 - The Food and Drug Administration is giving food makers an additional six months to comply with the requirements for the updated Nutrition Facts labels. Changes to Nutrition Facts labels include increasing the type size for calories and listing added sugars. This enforcement delay until July 2020 is in response to the industry's request for flexibility.

Originally, manufacturers with $10 million or more in annual food sales were supposed to meet the new requirements by July 26, 2018; manufacturers with less than $10 million in annual food sales had the original compliance date of July 26, 2019. These dates were then extended to January 1, 2020 and January 1, 2021, respectively.
