Congressional Briefing Examines Food Waste and Solutions to Food Insecurity

03/27/2019 - The Academy participated in a congressional briefing entitled Food Insecurity and Waste: We are Feeding Landfills Instead of People, hosted by the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute and featured Hunger Caucus Chair Rep. Jim McGovern (Mass.).

A panel of experts representing a variety of sectors such as communities, government, policy and research, including the Academy's Vice President of Policy Initiatives and Advocacy Jeanne Blankenship, MS RDN, showcased the challenges associated with food waste and offered suggestions for improving food security through policy and system change.

Maria Cecilia Pfund, CHCI-PepsiCo Foundation Nutritional Health Graduate Fellow led the session.
