Congress Passes Short-Term Funding Bill

12/22/2017 - The U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate voted to approve H.R. 1370, a short-term continuing resolution, which will maintain existing funding for programs through January 19, 2018. The bill includes $2.85 billion to extend the Children’s Health Insurance Program through March 31, and provides short-term funding for Community Health Centers, the National Health Service Corps, Teaching Health Center Graduate Medical Education and the Special Diabetes Program. President Trump signed the bill December 22.

The Academy continues to urge Congress to pass long-term reauthorizations for these important health care programs, and remains opposed to using the Prevention and Public Health Fund as a way to pay for these programs. Congress will return to Washington, D.C., on January 3, 2018 to continue discussions on a bipartisan budget agreement, and the Academy will continue to support a strong investment in nutrition services for prevention and treatment.
