Academy Signs On to Letter Urging Congress: Pass Improved Maternal Health Legislation in 2018

11/26/2018 - The Academy and other major organizations have joined to encourage Congress to pass legislation before the end of the year to address maternal health in the United States. The groups noted in a letter to leaders that more women die from pregnancy-related complications in the U.S. than in any other developed country, and the rate of maternal deaths continues to rise.

The Senate's Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee has unanimously approved S. 1112; in September, leaders of the House Energy and Commerce Committee's Health Subcommittee expressed bipartisan support for passing H.R. 1318 this year.
