Academy Provides Comments to FDA on Cannabis Products

07/17/2019 - The Academy stated its support of a "science-based, public health-driven approach to the regulation of products containing cannabis or cannabis-derived compounds, including delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD)," in comments submitted yesterday to the Food and Drug Administration in response to their request for comment on the "Scientific Data and Information about Products Containing Cannabis or Cannabis-Derived Compounds."

The Academy recognizes "this approach is essential in developing the type of objective, consistently-applied process that will be required as the legality of cannabis continues to change over time at both the state and federal levels." The Academy encourages the Food and Drug Administration to "consider how to effectively ameliorate consumer confusion arising from changing legal interpretations."
