Academy Continues to Oppose Relocation of ERS and NIFA

05/03/2019 - The Academy joins other organizations in continuing to oppose the USDA from proceeding with the long-distance relocations of the Economic Research Service and National Institute of Food and Agriculture.

USDA released a short-list of cities that are under consideration to host the research facilities indicating the agency's intent to proceed with the relocation despite significant opposition to the move.

The location of ERS and NIFA in the capital region is imperative to ensure food and agriculture research is well represented in strategic discussions and intra-agency collaboration.

The Academy is grounded in an evidence-based scientific portfolio that informs development and enhancement of food and nutrition services and programs, ensures high-quality, systematic monitoring and evaluation of food and nutrition services and programs and provides guidance for structuring and strengthening patient and consumer education delivery systems. To support this portfolio, the Academy relies heavily on the food and nutrition research programs, resources, data and statistical resources provided by ERS and NIFA.
