Academy Applauds Congress’ Passage of Bipartisan FY20 Spending Package

12/19/2019 - With the December 20 continuing resolution deadline looming, both the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate have passed legislation to fund a number of the Academy’s policy priorities. The enactment of these bills will ensure that government nutrition, health, and agriculture programs and initiatives that help keep Americans healthy, will continue uninterrupted.

The Academy is particularly pleased to see $90 million to support the WIC Peer Breastfeeding Counselor Program, $30 million to support school kitchen equipment grants, $35 million for the Summer EBT program and $425 million for the Agriculture and Food Research Initiative, as well as $50 million for public health data modernization and $937 million for Older Americans Act nutrition programs.

The Academy thanks Congress for its commitment to investing in nutrition, public health and agriculture programs, and urges the president to sign the bills into law.
