02/04/2019 - Rayane AbuSabha, PhD, RD, Senior Program Manager for the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), has been named the ACEND executive director succeeding Mary Gregoire, PhD, RD who will retire on May 31, 2019. As the accrediting agency for education programs in nutrition and dietetics, ACEND serves and protects students and the public by ensuring the quality and continued improvement of those programs.
"Dr. AbuSabha is a well-known and respected nutrition and dietetics educator with the background, vision and leadership skills needed to be successful in this position" said Academy Chief Executive Officer Patricia Babjak. ACEND Board Chair, Christine Hartney added, "She has broad experience in nutrition and dietetics education and accreditation, both in her work with ACEND and also having taught in and managed didactic, internship and advanced degree programs." Previously, AbuSabha was a professor at The Sage Colleges, where she served during her career as department chair and director of the nutrition and dietetics and Master's degree programs.
AbuSabha received an undergraduate degree in food technology and nutrition from the American University of Beirut and a master's degree in nutrition science and doctorate in human and community nutrition, both from The Pennsylvania State University. She has received numerous awards for her scholarship and leadership, was chair of the Nutrition and Dietetics Educators and Preceptors (NDEP) and served on the ACEND Board of Directors.
