03/11/2020 - In celebration of Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Day we asked our members to respond to the following:
This year's National Nutrition Month® theme has four key messages:
- Eat a variety of nutritious foods every day.
- Plan your meals each week.
- Learn skills to create tasty meals.
- Consult a registered dietitian nutritionist.
Which of these key messages resonates most with you and why?
From more than 70 thoughtful responses from Academy members that confirm and support the value of RDN services, the winner of the 2020 Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Day contest is Jennifer A. Palauskas, RD, LDN, of Scranton, Pa.
Jennifer's winning entry is:
"I chose 'Learn skills to create tasty meals' because I love educating patients about healthy eating, using leftovers to eliminate food waste and cooking on budgets. This gives clients the practical knowledge they need to be healthier and reach their goals. It’s like the old adage, 'Give a man a fish, he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish, he will eat for a lifetime.' And, isn't it great that we, as dietitians, have the power to do just that?"
Jennifer was featured on an electronic banner that appeared over New York City's Times Square on Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Day – March 11.
Jennifer is a clinical dietitian at Moses Taylor Hospital for Morrison Healthcare where she educates clients about healthful eating and meal preparation. Jennifer said she decided to enter the RDN Day Contest for the first time after falling in love with this year's National Nutrition Month® theme, "Eat Right, Bite by Bite."
Thank you to Jennifer and to all registered dietitian nutritionists for everything you do to help improve the nutritional health of Americans and people around the world through food and nutrition.
