03/08/2017 - In celebration of Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Day and in honor of the 2017 National Nutrition Month® theme "Put Your Best Fork Forward" we asked our members to share "Why is it important to be an advocate for advancing the nutritional status of your community?"
From more than 180 thoughtful and inspirational testimonials from Academy members that confirm and support the value of RDN services, the winner of the 2017 Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Day contest is Ilene Smith, MS, RD, of New York City:
"RDNs need to be advocates for the nutrition status of their communities because they represent the only profession with knowledge, skills, training and passion to take on that role. Regardless of what their day-to-day jobs are, RDNs act as stewards and role models for healthy eating for their constituents, their communities, their friends and their families. After all, whether we push for legislation, manage community programs, make media appearances or counsel food companies, RDNs share a singular and common objective — to make it easier for every single person to eat a more balanced diet."
Ilene was featured on an electronic banner that appeared over New York City's Times Square on Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Day – March 8.
