Bipartisan Policy Center Recommendations to Strengthen SNAP
03/15/2018 - The Bipartisan Policy Center's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Task Force has released "Leading with Nutrition: Leveraging Federal Programs for Better Health," a report containing recommendations “for promoting healthy nutrition through public programs and policies related to food and health.”
The report is a culmination of a nine-month effort from a 13-member task force. Its recommendations focus on “four distinct areas of opportunity”:
- prioritizing nutrition in the SNAP, including eliminating sugar-sweetened beverages from SNAP benefits
- strengthening SNAP education, including enhancing technical assistance from U.S. Department of Agriculture regional offices
- aligning SNAP and Medicaid
- coordinating federal and state agencies and programs
